10-Minute Touch Up: Try Something New and Give Something the Boot- freshen up your blogging!

Try Something New (& Give Something the Boot)

Challenge:  Get some new functionality out of your blog or productivity in your social media-ing by trying something new (I’ll tell you where to start below). Not only that, get rid of some clutter behind-the-scenes and delete a plugin you no longer use.

Why: You might be in a rut or you might be searching for a solution to an annoying bloggy problem (like how WordPress doesn’t notify commenters when you reply to them without a plugin- grrr). On the flip side, having lots of inactive plugins can slow down your site so it’s time to get them the boot.

How to Do It

1. Head over to my snazzy new Ultimate Guide to Blogger Resources.

Yeah, that just happened. I blatantly promoted myself. Of course, you can go somewhere ELSE to find new apps, tools, or plugins to try. But I’m all about easy. Borderline lazy even. So it all works itself out!

2. Find a new tool, plugin, or app that sounds appealing, then download and/or install it.

If you’re stuck, I suggest trying Listly. It’s so fun!

3. Give your inactive, never-gonna-use-again plugins the heave ho.

Delete those bad boys. If you’re on Blogger, then get rid of any useless widgets you might have.

4. Now go explore what you chose from step 2.

Whether you went the practical route or the fun one, may it be useful and make blogging a teensy bit better.

Your Turn

What did you chose to try? Did you delete a lot of plugins or widgets?

I’m on typepad and I’m always so jealous of wordpress because of the comment luv and reply-notification plugins that are only available for wordpress – I guess these are the things you don’t realise are important when you’re first starting out!

I’m going to try that comment luv on Blogger. I’m just so afraid of the whole backing up your template thing. I don’t want to mess stuff up. Also, I’ve been thinking of getting rid of the widget that shows your followers. A bunch of pictures. I’m not sure it does any good at all. Thanks for this.
